KAKAMPI MO ANG BATAS

BY Atty. BATAS MAURICIO

LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “… If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: …The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you…” (Deuteronomy 28:1-2, 7, the Holy Bible).

WHAT WE MUST CONDEMN IN THE KIAN DELOS SANTOS KILLING: It is easy to be agitated about, and therefore condemn, the killing by the police of 17 year-old Kian Delos Santos. It is a natural feeling to get angry at the evident murder of a very young man, simply because he has been linked to the illegal drugs trade.

But, what we must all be truly agitated about, and condemn to the hilt, should be the people who made our country and our people enmeshed in shabu and other illegal drugs, and in a host of other criminal activities, during their watch, either because they were grossly incompetent, or they benefited from the criminal transactions they even encouraged and abetted.

Of course, our readers here know what I mean by this. We are now witnessing Filipino children and many others being killed on account of shabu only because those who ruled this country before President Duterte allowed the proliferation of shabu in our midst since they amassed great wealth and power from the peddling of shabu and other illegal drugs.

THOSE CALLING FOR “EDSA” VS. DUTERTE WILL BE SHAMED: The question now is, will Filipinos be agitated enough to compel them to troop to EDSA once more to seek the ouster of President Duterte who is seen by his opponents, political or otherwise, as the author of all these killings related to shabu?

This question has to be asked now, in view of the upsurge of social media posts and comments clearly calling for another EDSA. Rebellious though these calls maybe, it is undeniable that such calls can be justified under the Cory Aquino 1987 Constitution, which provides for a “people power” system of citizen participation in government.

My view is that those who are doing this now will be shamed, because there can be no EDSA people power revolt against Duterte at this point, considering his continuing vast popularity among Filipinos. Any attempt at EDSA to unseat him can be immediately matched by a powerful counter-protest that Duterte supporters can easily mount.

HERE’S A BETTER WAY TO TRULY DEFEAT SHABU, CRIME, AND ANARCHY IN RP: Filipinos should, instead, learn to turn to Jesus, our God and Savior, to seek a solution to what is bedeviling the country now. In the safety of our homes and our churches, we should embark on knowing God’s will, by the conscientious reading of His Bible, and carefully obeying everything that is written therein.

This kind of a strategy—reading the Bible and obeying God’s commands written therein—would be better and in fact is the safest means of fighting off the lawlessness that is gripping our country and our people now. It is also the best instrument of defeating whoever would be behind all these chaos and mayhem.

Indeed, the Bible promised that if we listened to God and obeyed Him, He shall cause us to defeat and be victorious over our enemies, including the powerful and moneyed politicians and their criminal cohorts. I am convinced we should try this solution now. Every Christian believer should now read their Bible, and obey sincerely the commands found therein. God’s deliverance shall come after that!
