As early as today, aside from reading sad stories brought about by calamities, it is best to read something shocking but enlightening about the political climate in Zamboanga City that is also undergoing change like the weather. In a game of chess, the player that has a calculated move and a game plan always win. Politics is like a game of chess, somebody has to be saved and somebody has to be eaten.

In the East Coast area or District 2, soon to be vacant congressionally, there is an ongoing loose talk after the big birthday bash of Dakak resort owner Nonong Jalosjos in Dapitan City, that should he decide to vie for the city mayorship and slug it out with anybody, Nonong Jalosjos will help someone to run for Congress in District 2. Many say it will be a lady relative who comes from Zamboanga City but is now a city Councilor in Dapitan. Her name is Mercy Arquiza according to my spy Terio Tirador. If this is true, then it will be a political fight with someone who will be fielded by Mayor Celso Lobregat whose term is to expire in 2013 and definitely Mayor Celso Lobregat will not run for Congress in District 2 because he does not have the full support of the Island barangays in the East Coast whose total votes they say is at least 15% of the total in District 2. This does not count the flying and dead voters, if the COMELEC has not yet cleansed it. In this political scenario there is a strong darkhorse with a white hair, Hadji Councilor Abdurahman Nuno whose turf includes the islands and now since his wife coming from the Macrohon family has also joined politics, Hadji Aman Nuno can command votes from the Christians in the East coast.

The best development in the political scene of the city is, who will be the running mate of Congressman Erbie A.Fabian if he decides to run for City Mayor? Election is still one year away but in this coming few months the political sediments will settle down. Many local politicians in the city have already insinuated that they are willing and available to be the running mate of Congressman Fabian, but since he has not yet made known his intention so he has not yet decided who will be his running mate.

There is one city councilor whose political track record is unblemished. He has been a barangay official once and he has handled his assigned committee at the city council effectively. His closeness to the city mayor made him known to the city as his trusted ally. But whether we like it or not, he will soon part ways with Mayor Lobregat due to the calling of times. Mayor Lobregat will end his term and so he has to bid goodbye to his wards. This City Councilor is the popular Nonong Guingona of Sta. Catalina barangay. Councilor Guingona is very ripe to be a vice-mayor and the ideal running mate of Congressman Fabian, should he decide to run for City Mayor, which is the clamor of many Zamboanguenos both in the city proper and the East and West coasts. There is no doubt a Fabian-Guingona tandem is perfect, both have the same similarities, they are down-to-earth politicians and that is what we need to be our public servants.

In one of our social drinking sessions, Councilor Guingona was there and those who were there unanimously endorsedhim to be the vice-mayor running mate of Congressman Fabian who was also there. Congressman Fabian did not directly say he is going to run for city mayor. It is the other way around. People are pushing him to run. Councilor Guingona is also well accepted by Congressman Fabian. Perhaps that night a new beginning has arrived for Congressman Fabian and Councilor  Guingona. Watch for this big news in the early months of 2013.

Table Talk, short of cutting my balls like the lawyer of PGMA, Congressman Fabian will run for City Mayor and his running mate is Councilor Nonong Guingona, who did not say yes or no when endorsed by many businessmen and professionals including some members of the media that night. Well done with Fabian and Guingona, it will be a dream team.

Scoop: Is it true that many out of town contractors having won the bid for some infrastructure projects in the city have abandoned their contract and are running away? They all reasoned out for abandoning their contracts that it is city hall that is dictating the price of construction materials and labor? Since when has city hall got a license as Engineer and Architect? Just asking and more information about contracts and construction job in the city in our next issues.
