A total of 77 females became victims of rape from January to June this year, while 414 minors were victims of violence against children .

A total of 1,096 women were registered as also victims of violence against women in the same period.

Zamboanga City Police Office Women’s and Children Protection  Desk Chief Clerk SPO3 Annie Marie Anuary said that 60 of the rape victims were minors and 17 adults.

During the first quarter of this year,  11 rape cases were filed in court while 14 are still  under investigation, three referred to the barangay, one was settled, three were attempted rape cases and three for record purposes because the victims were adult.

In the second quarter of this year,  28 minors and seven adults  are rape victims, six of which have been filed in court, 21 under investigation for filing, two attempted,  two referred to the barangays , one settled and one incestuous rape.

Meanwhile, Anuary disclosed that 414 minors have been registered as victims of violence from January to June this year.  A total of 223 children became victims in the first quarter and 191 in the second quarter.

She said that the incidents or index was reduced to  191 from 223 because people concerned are now aware in filing complaint.

On  the incidents of violence against women, 362 were registered in the first quarter and 734 in the second quarter.

According to Anuary, there was an increase in the number of cases because women nowadays are not ashame to report to the Women’s and Childrens Protection Desk. — Allen Abastillas
