The Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology is proud to declare that the College produced seven newly licensed Fisheries Technologists  from the College of Fisheries and Applied Sciences who were given the Fisheries Technologists Licensure Examination on October 21 and 22, 2015.

The last Fisheries Technologists Licensure Examination was administered in October 2012 where three passers made it to the list  — Buendia, Joel B., Misa Eric E., and Toriano, Therese. The Philippine Regulations Commission postponed the schedule of the 2013 and 2014 licensure exam for fisheries technologists, the PRC announced the said exam’s postponement  which was originally set last October 23 and 24 in Manila, Davao and Iloilo.

The lone member of the  Board of Fishery Technology recommended the postponement  due to the vacancies in the membership of the Board rendering the Board of Fisheries Technologists short of the requirement for a quorum to validly perform and specifically  formulate and extract test items.

In August 13, 2014, PRC sought to indefinitely postpone the Fisheries Technologists Licensure Exam until new members of the Board will have been duly appointed and qualified. After almost two years, graduates of the BS Fishery program of ZSCMST did not hold up  and  submitted themselves for examination and  the result was a good number of passers were added to the roster.    Seven new breed of Registered Fisheries Technologists gave a name to ZSCMST and they   are : Caquilala, Maribel U., Dagandan, Marlon B., Dampios, Israel L., Galleron,Marineth B.,Maharail, Muhaimin S., Mamhot, Irish B.,Salili, Analiza B.

The  Fisheries program teaches the concepts of fisheries management, environmental management and multi-sectorial approach to coastal management. It also educates students on the proper methods to enhance the production of fisheries resources. The program provides students with a strong scientific background on inland fisheries, marine fisheries and fish processing.

ZSCMST graduates of BS Fisheries program are sought after because they possess the strong foundation in science, they have the ability to work outdoors in  uncomfortable conditions, they have the problem solving and logical skills, detail-oriented and have patience. These are the imbued  traits, skills and  attitude permeated by the College for them to be globally competitive and able to meet the industry needs. — Prof. Marife R.
