House of Representatives Public Works and highways Chairman and District 1 Congressman Celso Lobregat has urged the different public utility providers in Zamboanga City to comply with the deadline set next month to clear their respective utility equipment which is presently affected in the ongoing road widening projects in District 1.

During the recent coordinating conference called by the Department of Public Works and Highways District Engineering Office IX, Congressman Lobregat called the attention of the representatives of the utility providers present like Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO), Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD), Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), Globe Telecom, SkyCable Corporation and Mindanao Cable Corporation, to act with sense of urgency in removing the relocating their respective cable and power lines, pipes and posts which were affected by the ongoing road widening projects in the west coast.

Lobregat said that the long delay of the implementation and completion of such infrastructure projects also means delay in the delivery of services to the people.

During the conference, the solon also questioned the lapses and communication gaps which was uncovered between the DPWH and utility providers’ personnel which has partially caused the in-action of some utility agencies to act on the relocation of their lines, pipes and posts in the earliest possible time to pave the way for the final concreting of the road networks undergoing expansion.

“We need to have close coordination with each other, DPWH should lead the way, if the utility providers doesn’t answer their phone, you go to them personally morning, afternoon and evening for each problem involving their company to be resolved the soonest possible time, this project is very much delayed,” Lobregat said.

The solon is optimistic that after the pressure imposed in each utility to act immediately on their respective tasks, and that this obstruction problems will be resolved before the end of May 2017. – Dexter Yap
