The District 1 Congressional Office has opened another livelihood training for women, this time with victims of human trafficking now under the care of a non-government organization.

Held in cooperation with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the livelihood training for women victims of human trafficking will cover a period of 5 days and will include manicure, pedicure and footspa.

The women are under the care of the NGO Katilingban Para sa Kauswagan through its Tanglaw Buhay Center.

House Deputy Speaker and District I Representative Beng Climaco said the continuous TESDA trainings for women groups and other sectors are purposely to give the constituents alternate livelihood activities.

“It is important that we develop our people’s potentials more than just the physical infrastructure that we see around the city. The more we equip our people in the communities, the more we open opportunities that they can support well the needs of their families and will give them more sustainable, alternative source of income,” Cong. Climaco said.

The TESDA trainings cover both districts and are focused on communities and different sectors that request for the conduct of these trainings from the Office of the District 1 Representative.

“We particularly give these trainings most especially to women who are jobless. This is already one way of helping their husbands augment their income. We want to empower the various groups of women, most especially those who were victims of abuse, trafficking and violence. Through these trainings they can start all over and become a part of society once again,” Climaco added.

Last week, the lady solon graduated some 25 trainees composed of policewomen and wives of policemen assigned with the Police Regional Office in Mercedes. The training covered bread making and pastry making. — Marvin Segura
