A construction worker who was taken hostage in Marawi city has confirmed the presence of  terrorists coming from  Zamboanga city and other parts of Western Mindanao.

Romar Marjalino, one of three hostages who made their daring escape from the Maute lair in Marawi city, has confirmed that at least nine  terrorists come from Zamboanga and Western Mindanao.

In a radio interview, Marjalino said that the terrorists come from the areas of Lower Calarian,  and Sta Catalina in Zamboanga and Basilan and Sulu provinces.

Marjalino, together with his brother Roel and companion Jimmy Esperat escaped from their Maute captors last August 5.

Marjalino left at least thirty other hostages, including Marawi priest Father Chito Soganub.

The group of hostages also reportedly included 20 women and more than ten children.

The three workers escaped while their captors were asleep and swam for about 1,000 meters until they reached an area guarded by government troops.

Marjalino vowed never to work in Marawi after escaping from the hands of the Maute.  (Liza Jocson)
