2 with submachine gun arrested at checkpoint PDF Print E-mail

Two persons, who were reportedly armed with an Ingram assault submachine gun,  were apprehended after engaging police in a cat and mouse chase along La Purisima Street last Sunday.

The two suspects tried to escape police who were conducting a checkpoint  in Baliwasan Grande after a businessman was shot in the area that same night.

Members of the Counter Strike team, however, gave chase after they noticed the two suspects, identified as Dennis Perez y Ramos, 29 and Pilardo Ramos y Hefiga, 38, avoiding the inspection at the checkpoint.

The suspects were subjected to an inspection after being cornered along La Purisima in front of a private university.

During inspection, police found one unit Ingram cal .9mm loaded with ammunition  in the suspects’ possession.

The suspects were brought to Zamboanga City Police Station 11 for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, two farmers were also apprehended in Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur after they were spotted displaying firearms at a videoke bar in the area.

The suspects, identified as Jhonny Oporto y Armateo and Renario Graciano y Saladaga, failed to present documents to support the weapons.

Police found from their possession two .45 caliber pistols with live ammunition.

The suspects were placed under the custody of the Margosatubig Police Station for proper disposition.  (Dan Toribio)
