Dr. Ong thanks Celso for facilitating ZCMC infra PDF Print E-mail

Outgoing Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) Chief of Hospital Dr. Romeo Ong expressed his heartfelt gratitude to House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Public Works and Highways and Congressman Celso Lobregat for his intervention in the realization of the mega structures being constructed at present in the said public hospital.

Dr. Ong said that his dream for ZCMC when he got in as chief of hospital is that to be able to deliver the best, as much as possible health services to the common people who only relies in the government for free medical services at par with the best facilities that can be offered to address their medical needs.

“What’s happening now in ZCMC is a dream come true for me, I have always wanted this public hospital to be the best in Mindanao and in the country when it comes to delivery of public health services, indeed it is now with the help of Congressman Lobregat,” Ong said.

He said that he is bear witness to the outstanding work ethics of Lobregat who never stops making follow-up and being hands on in the legislation of the conversion of ZCMC from 500 to 800 bed capacity, the alignment of the budget from the Department of Health for the various infrastructure needs of the hospital, and making personal representation to DOH head office, congress and the senate as well for the development of ZCMC.

Dr. ong said that Lobregat was firm in his continuing commitment is to improve and modernize the public health facilities and make quality health services more accessible to the people of Zamboanga City. By filing House Bill No. 3750 - increasing the bed capacity of Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) from 500 beds to 800 beds has been passed by the House of Representatives under HB 6742 last December 11, 2017. And House Bill No. 4945 converting the Labuan Public Hospital in Zamboanga City into a Level II General Hospital with a 100-bed capacity has been passed by the House of Representatives under HB 6740 last December 11, 2017.

Dr Ong said that this year cancer patients will no longer have to go to Manila, Cebu or Davao for treatments as the cancer center is substantially completed.

Underway construction is the the Central Tower, Block 1 is a 5-storey building which will house the Departments of Surgery, Pediatrics, Surgical and Pediatrics ICU, Pediatrics Cancer Unit, Burnt Unit, Geriatrics Unit, 20 Private Rooms, Chapel and Conference Room.

And much of the much more ?527.5 million ZCMC will get in 2018 has been a concerted effort of Dr. Romy and others.

Dr Ong retired in government service on his birthday – February 14, 2017, but his term was extended for six months thru the intervention of Lobregat and got a Christmas gift as he got another 6 months extension last August 2017. He ended his career in Public Health on February 14, 2018 on a high and happy note. – Dexter Yap
