On the opening of the first quarter of the 2019, the capital town of Bongao in Tawi-Tawi province and the towns of Jolo and Siasi in Sulu province will be the centers of trade and commerce in Southern Philippines.

This after President Rodrigo R. Duterte recently signed Executive Order 64 which mandates the opening of the barter trade in these areas.

According to Zamboanga City District Customs Collector Segundo Sigmundfreud Barte, Jr., the opening of barter trade in the said municipal towns will certainly provide bigger opportunities for the businessmen of Tawi-Tawi and Sulu.

Barte added their office will be hiring employees in the Bongao, Jolo, Siasi since they will also be strengthening the Customs Intelligence Quarantine and Security offices for the opening of the barter trade.

He added that additional new employees are needed by BOC to help and assist for the processing of the entry of documents of imported goods.

Barte emphasized that the opening of the barter trade is suitable because it serves as the front door of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA). (Allen Abastillas)
