In line with the city government’s desire for a disease-free city, the City Nutrition Council met Friday, June 3 to discuss and plan the city’s celebration of Nutrition Month in July.

The theme for this year’s Nutrition Month celebration – “Isulong ang BREASTFEEDING – Tama, Sapat at Eksklusibo” – promoting the benefits of breastfeeding on both mother and child.

The council is yet to finalize the lineup of activities which would include the annual Buntis and Breastfeeding Summit with lectures on the proper way of breastfeeding. Feeding programs would also be conducted in selected schools and barangays.
The month-long celebration is tentatively set to be launched on July 7 with a grand parade.

There are also plans to hold a citywide search for a Model Breastfeeding Mother to be participated in by lactating mothers from each of the city’s 15 Health Districts.
The Model Breastfeeding Mother is conceptualized as both a beauty contest and a fund-raising activity for a Breastfeeding Room to be put up in either Plaza Pershing or Paseo del Mar.

The meeting was attended by City Health Officer Rodelin Agbulos, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo, Councilor and Chairman of council committee on health Lilia Nuño, city nutritionists, as well as representatives from the Department of Education, Department of Interior and Local Government, Red Cross, Rotary Club and AGAPE. —Claudine Uniana/City Hall PIO
