The Ateneo de Zamboanga University thru its Ateneo Research Center in coordination with the City Government of Zamboanga, the Commission on Higher Education-9 and the Department of Science and Technology-9 will hold Reducing Risks, Building Adaptive Capacity: A Climate Change Adaptation Conference.
The conference will be held on June 23-24 at the Carlos Dominguez Hall, Ateneo de Zamboanga University La Purisima Campus, Zamboanga City.
Local government units, social development organizations, the academe, research institutions, the private sector, government national line agencies and climate change experts from all over the country will convene to share and learn experiences and research findings, and plan for collaborative actions that will help prepare communities reduce vulnerability and risks to actual and expected changes in climate.
Hon. Elisea “Bebet” G. Gozun, the Presidential Assistant for Climate Change, will give the keynote address during the opening program on June 23. Talks on current climate change framework and adaptation initiatives, benchmarks that support adaptation measures and risk reduction, will be presented by the Climate Change Commission and the Environmental Science for Social Change, respectively.
Sec. Luwalhati R. Antonino, chairperson of the Mindanao Development Authority, will present MinDA2020: The emerging peace and development agenda for Mindanao. There will also be concurrent sessions on current and on-going research initiatives by Higher Education Institutions. The conference will end with a consultative/planning meeting for possible collaborative actions between and among different sectors present in the conference.
