City Schools Division Superintendent Pedro Melchor Natividad has warned school officials against collecting fees for graduation this school year.
Natividad said that all fees should be covered by the school’s maintenance and operating expenses and should not be collected from parents and the students.
“The graduation should be simple but meaningful,” said Natividad, quoting from Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones’ directive to all school officials on graduation ceremonies.
He said that moving up ceremonies should only involve parents, school officials and students.
Natividad also reminded school officials on the Dep-ed directive of non-imposition of non-academic projects such as field trips, film showings and Junior Senior Proms which add to expenses of the students.
Graduation ceremonies are scheduled on April 6 to 7 for all schools in the city proper.
Schools in far flung barangays may however schedule their graduation ceremonies a day earlier, said Natividad. (Liza Jocson)
