Chief of Staff Gen Eduardo Anio arrived in Zamboanga and awarded soldiers who were wounded in encounters with different groups of lawless elements in Mindanao.

Anio, whose arrival was delayed together with Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez proceeded to the Camp Basilio Navarro General Hospital to where the soldiers had been confined.

Eight soldiers were awarded the Wounded Personnel Medal for injuries sustained during military operations in Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan and Marawi.

Three soldiers were awarded the Wounded Personnel medal for figuring in an encounter with New People’s Army members in Barangay Tinaplan, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte last July 15.

They are Sgt. Yusop Nahudan, and militiamen Mole Icasama and Lito Lalag.

Three soldiers, Staff Sgt. Junifel Pangasian, Sgt Al-Muktar Sali and Corporal Ayatulla J. Hamid, were awarded for sustaining injuries sustained during the battle in Marawi city against the Maute Terrorist Group.

Private Arjone M. Bano was awarded the Wounded Personnel Medal for wounds sustained during an encounter against the Abu Sayyaf in barangay Bohe Pahu, Ungkaya Pukan. Basilan last July 7.

Civilian Volunteer Charlie H. Alejandro was also awarded the Wounded Personnel Medal for wounds sustained in battling around 20 members of the Abu Sayyaf group in Rancho Eguana, Sitio Campo Barn, Barangay Switch Yakal, Basilan last July 20.  (Remus Ong)
