Zamboanga Today Editorial cartoonist Arsenio “Rawhide” Nuevo succumbed to a heart ailment yesterday morning at a local hospital.  He was 71.

Nuevo was also a broadcaster who worked as an announcer of DXVP Radio, a station owned by the Zamboanga Archdiocese.

As Zamboanga Today’s editorial cartoonist, Nuevo poked fun while sending significant political messages on issues confronting the city.

Nuevo was also an active public servant, having been elected as a barangay kagawad of barangay Lumayang.

His project included the “Monte Santo,”  Lumayang’s own fourteen stations of the cross, a well-visited landmark especially during the Holy Week.

He was also responsible for discovering amateur boxers  in the program “Golpe Golpe na Barangay,” an activity under the leadership of then District 2 Congressman Erbie Fabian.  (Nonong Santiago)
