The conduct of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in the areas of responsibility of Police Regional Office 9 (PRO-9) was generally peaceful despite disturbances related to the election  in some parts of the region.

Police Regional Information Officer Chief Insp. Helen Galvez said that the incidents were considered as isolated cases.

Galvez said that in a report submitted to the Operation Center of PRO-9 by the city, municipal and provincial offices it appears that there was no serious violent incident reported as of 7 p.m., Monday.

Police said that the successful implementation of safe BSKE 2018 security plan coupled with significant operational accomplishments contributed more in maintaining the peace and order during the political exercise.

PRO-9 Regional Director Chief Supt. Billy B Beltran together with the inspecting team from PRO-9  closely supervised and monitored provinces and cities which were earlier declared “areas under watch list” in order to ensure tight security operation.

The Police Regional Office 9 and their AFP counterparts have deployed 5,195 of its personnel to secure the 1, 883 polling centers in the region.

PRO-9 earlier installed Commission on Election checkpoints in strategic areas in the region for the strict implementation of the election gun ban during the election period which started last April 14.

The operation led to the arrest of 53 individuals and the confiscation of 60 firearms including 1 explosive and 6 bladed weapons. (Dan Toribio)
