A female business partner of a policeman was killed when riding-in-tandem assassins staged an ambush on the duo along the highway in Upper Calarian last Monday night.

The fatality was identified as Eva Lariaga, 27 years old and a resident of Barangay Curuan.

Lariaga was reportedly with SPO 1 Ferdie Teves, 42 years old, a resident of Lunzuran and assigned at the Police Regional Office-9 headquarters.

Teves and Lariaga were riding on a utility vehicle along the highway in Upper Calarian to collect money owed by a certain Evelyn Salvador.

Upon reaching Purok AB, Flamingo Village, Teves slowed the vehicle down to purposely ask for directions.

Motorcycle-riding gunmen then moved to the  side of the AUV and opened fire at the couple with a .45 caliber pistol.

Teves managed to maneuver the vehicle away from the suspects, who fled towards the direction of the west coast.

The policeman then drove towards Brent Hospital but Lauriaga, who sustained bullet wounds, was declared dead on arrival by physicians.

Teves himself was shot in the arm.

Police attributed the crime to personal grudge and are looking for the suspect who they identified as a certain “Bhakie.”

Police are continuing their investigation on the incident.  (Dan Toribio)
