A lone gunman boldly staged a daring gun attack which killed a vice-mayor of Tawi Tawi Province along busy Governor Alvarez Street at the height of rush hour traffic yesterday afternoon.

Police identified the victim as Hadji Alrasid Mohammad Alih y Lipae, the vice-mayor of Sapa Sapa Municipality in Tawi Tawi province.

Police said that the incident happened when Ali was travelling with a driver, another passenger and a police escort onboard their vehicle, a Toyota Innova at around 5:30pm.

When the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Veterans and Governor Alvarez streets, a lone gunman casually walked towards the vehicle and shot Ali who was then sitting at the backseat.

The gunman then walked towards a motorcycle driven by his cohort and sped off towards Nuñez Extension.

The vice-mayor suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Initial reports said that no other passenger was hurt in the attack.

Police recovered 4 empty shells of a.45 caliber pistol from the crime scene.

This is the sixth shooting incident reported in a span of five days in Zamboanga City and the second involving a government official.

Last Saturday, Sta. Catalina Barangay Kagawad Michael Magallanes was gunned down in an attack near his home. (with reports from Ely Dumaboc)
