Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos wants the National Food Authority (NFA) and the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) abolished.

“Hindi naman nila nagagampanan ang purpose nila,” said Governor Marcos about the two agencies created during the time of her late father, President Ferdinand Marcos.

Governor Marcos suggested that funds alloted for the NFA be given to local government units for local officials to buy palay from the farmers.

She believes that this is a more effective set-up because of the concern for farmer constituents by elected officials.

She also asked the national government to focus its investments on systems and methods adopted by advanced countries to enhance farmers’ productivity.

“Kung gusto natin ng murang pagkain, ang magsasaka ang dapat na unang suportahan at pangalagaan,” said Marcos.  (Ely Dumaboc)
