A female jewelry shop employee allegedly carted away more than P2-million worth of gems to be used for her grandfather’s medical treatment.

Police arrested the subject who they identified as Diana Rose Calunod y Saibsab, 25, single and a resident of Sagrada Familia, Camino Nuevo.

Calunod was initially brought to the police station by Jewel by Audrey jewelry store Assistant Manager Kayci Amparo y Concepcion for allegedly stealing P1-million worth of gems from the establishment.

The jewels were reportedly pawned to different branches of Palawan Pawnshop.

Upon deeper investigation however, police found out that a total of 34 assorted gems worth P2,157,600 were missing from the store.

Management wrote a memorandum to all employees asking them to explain the loss of the items.

The suspect explained that the family was financially constrained to pay for her grandfather’s medical treatment, a situation which compelled her to take the gems.
