City Hall has issued Executive Order 428 temporarily designating a section of Gov. Ramos Avenue in Barangay San Roque as one way street to give way to the road rehabilitation project undertaken by the City Engineer’s Office.

The order takes effect December 11, 2018 with the area from the junction Gov. Ramos Avenue- San Roque Road towards the frontage of the National Food Authority (NFA) declared as one way street and the area from the frontage of the NFA compound towards the junction Gov. Ramos Avenue- San Roque Road as no entry.

Based on the order, all motor vehicles coming from Gov. Ramos Avenue (Sta. Maria church) going towards Barangay San Roque or the west coast are diverted either to turn right to the road leading to the former ARMM property in barangay Cabatangan turn left towards the road leading to Sitio Uwak road leading to the main San Roque road.

All trucks and heavy motor vehicles coming from the east coast of the city are also advised to take the MCLL Highway to Gov. Camins Avenue- Zamboanga Labuan road towards the west coast of the city, pursuant to the EO issued by Mayor Beng Climaco last Nov. 8.

The mayor’s EO is concurred by the City Council through Resolution 1424 approved last Nov. 21.

The road rehab project which involves re-concreting of the road was originally scheduled for implementation last September but was suspended to give way to the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival last October and the consequent observance All Saints Day and All Souls Day last November.

The project is one of the 3 projects being undertaken in San Roque- the two others are the rehab of San Roque (now ongoing) and the Gov. Ramos Avenue (junction Fairview Drive to Junction Galvez Drive).

Construction activities are done 9am to 3pm and 8pm to 5am so as not to inconvenience motorists and commuters during peak hours. The public is advised about possible traffic congestion along the stretch and for the same to take other available routes. (Sheila Covarrubias)
