Policemen brought Pedro Sogradiel Jr. to the City Prosecutor Office for inquest after he was linked to the abduction of his niece in Manicahan last Tuesday night.
A police report disclosed that cases of abduction, murder and robbery were forwarded to the prosecutor's office against Sogradiel.
City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin Deocampo disclosed that Sogradiel was held by the police for questioning immediately after Maricris Cuartocruz y Sogradiel, 21, a nurse, was seized by some 10 armed men at their residence in Kilometer 26, Manicahan.
Police investigation showed that a group of persons identified as Rajak Campo, brother-in-law of Pedro Sogradiel Jr. , a certain Jeffrey and Raymond, all natives of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, were seen at Pedro's house having a drinking spree the whole day Tuesday.
Campo was also implicated in the kidnapping of Benjamin Almonte, a retired soldier who was abducted on February, but was released several weeks later.
Almonte’s house is located in the same barangay where the Cuartocruz family is residing.
After Sogradiel was arrested, police recovered several empty bottles of beer at his residence but the suspicious persons were not around.
Police suspect that Sogradiel had been used by the kidnappers to get information about the victim’s family.
Sogradiel denied the charges put up against him during interviews with newsmen after he was arrested.
Police believe that Maricris was taken to Zamboanga Sibugay. As of press time, no communication has been established by the victim's family and the kidnappers.
Maricris was seized by armed men at their house at 7.pm.
The kidnappers took a big amount of money and mauled her mother before they left.
While fleeing towards the shoreline, the armed men bringing Maricris met her grandfather Jesus Sogradiel, 72, a member of the barangay tanod, who tried to stop them but was shot and killed. -- Dan Toribio Jr.
