Heart disease is still the leading cause of death last year, according to the City Health Office (CHO.)

Dr. Ivy Rozeth Saavedra-Iturralde, chief of City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, said that sicknesses associated with the heart include the following: Myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, sudden cardiac death, and arrhythmias.

There are 1,180 cases recorded in 2017.

Their causes of death in the city include Pneumonia, Stroke, Cancer, Tuberculosis, Diabetes Mellitus and its complications, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Hypertension and its complications, Asthma, and end stage Renal disease.

Heart disease became the leading cause of mortality from 2011 to 2017.

Because of this,  the CHO is conducting activities such as Zumba exercises, Biggest Loser competition, sports, and others to keep government employees and the public physically active. (RGAAGo)
