Police are still investigating the perpetrator behind the explosion of a fragmentation grenade along the National Highway of Barangay Tuburan in Pagadian city last Friday.

A report from the Police Regional Office-9 said that the explosion happened  at around 5:30pm Friday in front of the Southern Philippines Agri -Machinery Center Building owned by Mr. Jesse John Mediodia Derayunan.

Neighbors were startled upon hearing a loud explosion which damaged the side passenger portion of a parked Multicab vehicle.

Derayunan initially thought that the explosion happened after the front tire of the multicab burst due to burning garbage near the vehicle.

Explosives and Ordnance personnel who rushed to the scene however revealed that the explosion was caused by a fragmentation hand grenade whose fuse was recovered at the blast site.

The report said that the nomenclature of the fragmentation grenade is still being determined.

Derayunan also said that he has no idea on how the grenade exploded in front of his building.  (Dan Toribio)
