The Department of Health-9’s (DOH-9)  National School Deworming activity in Region 9 is ongoing and targeting to deworm approximately 800,000 students.

The activity is expected to end by September.

Nieto Fernandez, National School Deworming Coordinator, said that they are targeting to deworm students from Kinder 2 to Senior High School.

The deworming activity will cover Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City, and Isabela City.

Proper coordination  was done with the Department of Education, health workers, and parents prior to the program’s implementation.

The school children will be given Albendazole 400mg chewable tablet on a full stomach.

The activity will be done with the strict supervision of the school nurses and DOH health workers. The heath workers will also monitor if adverse reaction will occur during and after the program.

Hospitals are also prepared to handle patients in case adverse effects attributed to deworming are observed.

DOH-9 is calling on all parents to support the health program for the good of their children.

Malnutrition and stunting are only two of the side effects noted by health professionals for children who fail to undergo deworming and have parasites in their body.

The last deworming intended for school children was conducted by the DOH last January. (RGAAGo)
